Abandoned Rail Brewing Co is a new brewery growing their own barley right on the Naramata Bench—yes, terroir for beer is now a thing. The identity centers around a bold mark that cleverly doubles as both a rail cross-section and a beer tasting glass. We then wrapped their longer name around it like a well-fitted track.
Rather than jumping on the art-label bandwagon, a system was built around a distinctive typeface—part spaghetti western grit, part modern sharpness. A wide color palette and pairing system allows them to quickly generate new labels for their ever-expanding brew list.
The Kettle Valley Railway, which winds dramatically through the cliffs of Naramata, BC, is a feat of early 20th-century engineering carved from sheer determination—and solid rock. Built to connect the remote Okanagan Valley to the rest of British Columbia, it required extensive hand-blasting through rugged terrain, leaving behind steep rock cuts and breathtaking views. Today, the abandoned rail line has been reborn as a scenic trail, offering hikers and cyclists a path through history, high above the vineyards and lake, and now brewery below.
